Cindy Xie is a recent graduate from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor’s in English and a focus in creative writing. While at UI, she was the Vice President and founding sister of the first Asian-interest sorority, Delta Phi Lambda, where she presented her organization to a wide demographic of possible members, set monthly goals and objectives, initiated fundraising and social events, and publicized Delta Phi Lambda via social media, databases, and websites.
Cindy also worked on a children’s coloring book project with the Monsoon United Asian Women of Iowa where she collaborated with several writers and illustrators to complete and contribute her own short story: The Tall and Twisted Tale to the project that provided stories to debunk the classic "damsel in distress" theme, portraying more independent and strong-willed women.
Her professional career outside of academia includes publishing her own children’s book, Daniel the Daring and his Traveling Circus that was sold in Barnes & Nobles nation-wide as well as on Amazon.com. Under Mirror Publishing, she negotiated contract agreements with publishers and distributors while she developed and executed the transition of her book into an e-book under Nook Book.
Presently, she works as a legal assistant for John Z Huang & Associates where she conducts research on statutes, regulations, and rulings and participates in the preliminary stages of case preparation and hearings. She also gained technical experience with filing for visas, estate closings, wills, trademarks, divorce, and not-for-profit corporations.
On the side, Cindy works as a guest blogger for Grads.co.uk, a jobs site dedicated solely to graduate and student recruitment. They feature the latest graduate programs, schemes, jobs and internship opportunities from Blue Chip organizations and SME’s across the United Kingdom. At Grads.co.uk, Cindy contributes weekly articles on issues important to students and graduates while improving and honing her personal voice and writing style.
Outside of professional interests Cindy travels widely, reads, writes, doodles, bikes, and enjoys playing the piano, the ukulele, and with her mustached bunny.
