“Don’t compromise yourself. You’ve all you’ve got.” – Janis Joplin
I’ve been singing the praises of Broadway sensation, A Night With Janis (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus) which I saw at the beautiful at the Lyceum Theater recently, for some time. A Night With Janis stars the incredible Mary Bridget Davies who transforms before our eyes into the legendary music pioneer, Janis Joplin.
Davies tells Janis’ story mostly through Janis’ music with such compassion, humor, vulnerability and charm that was Janis to her core. My impression from seeing A Night With Janis is Davies can sing rock n’ roll, soul and blues from her toe nails and this is a show everyone should see when they move to their new theater location in March to be announced soon in New York City. Davies resonates as J0plin in every way.
This show has star power in every direction from this very talented cast including the amazing Taprena Michelle Augustine, de’Adre Aziza, Nikki Kimbrough, NaTasha Yevette Williams and Allison Blackwell.
This over two-hour show brings you down a beautiful musical journey of Janis’ impact in music, as well as who influenced her musically including protrayals of Nina Simone, Etta James, and Aretha Franklin. Janis’ story will bring you to your feet, multiple times.
Put all your troubles away and find time in your schedule to see this when they return in March. It’s one thing to tell you, it’s another to see it for yourself – I hope you will. I know I will certainly be back.
